Before the Latin-American Revolution, there was a caste sytem in Latin-America based on blood purity.
- From highest to lowest, it went like this:
- Peninsulares- Spanish born spaniards who could hold the highest positions such as church leaders, military leaders, and administrateive leaders.
- Creoles- American born spanish who could own land, but could not hold high positions.
- Mestizos- Of spanish and Americindian descent.
- Mulattoes- Of European and African descent.
- Africans and Native Americans.
After the Revolution, social class and econiomic status was not enforced by law. Also, slavery was abolished and social class wasn't determined by physical attributes.
